This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Centre's official site or the Lawnotes site (our sites) or related services, mobile applications, products, and content (“our services”). It also has information about how we store, use, transfer, and delete that information.
Information We Collect & How We Use It
From your interactions with our services, we gather information in order to advertise to you. You voluntarily provide us with some of this information, such as your email address, which we use solely to manage your account and get in touch with you. WE WILL NOT SHARE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WITH A THIRD PARTY SAVE YOU CONSENT OR OTHERWISE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW.
As you use our services, we may gather additional information about you, such as the pages you visit (including how much of each page you view and for how long), the product features you use (such as Articles, Case laws, Reports, Resources on Criminal Justice, Criminal Law), and other activities. This data consists of a history of those activities, your IP address, details about your device (such the model or browser), and referral data (the route you used to reach a certain page). Tracking helps us to provide you with the best experience possible while using our services. We use this data to:
offer, evaluate, enhance, publicize, and personalize the Services;
combat spam and other types of abuse.
compile overall, anonymous data on how users interact with the Services.
When you register on our sites and log in using a third-party service (such as Twitter, Facebook, Apple, Google, Yahoo), we may gather, store, and occasionally update information related to that third-party account, such as your lists of friends or followers.
WE WILL NEVER POST SOMETHING THROUGH ONE OF YOUR THIRD-PARTY ACCOUNTS WITHOUT GETTING YOUR EXPLICIT CONSENT.
Disclosure of Information
For the purpose of delivering or facilitating third-party advertising to you, we will not disclose information about you to third parties. We will not provide third parties any information about you.
Occasionally, under certain conditions, we may share your account information with third parties, such as: (1) with your permission; (2) to a service provider or partner who complies with our data protection standards; (3) with academic or non-profit researchers using aggregation, anonymization, or pseudonymization; (4) when we have a good faith belief that doing so is required by law, such as in response to a subpoena or other legal process; and (5) when we have a good faith conviction that doing so will help save someone from suffering immediate harm.
Search engines might identify through our sites your profile page, public interactions (such comments or highlights), and post pages, making them accessible to users who perform a name search on Google, Bing etc. Links to your material or written works may also be shared by users on social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Storage of Data
Hardware, software, networking, storage, and other associated technologies required to run our sites are provided by third-party manufacturers and hosting partners. Both server logs and event logs are kept up to date by us. By using our Services, you grant us permission to send, store, and use your information everywhere we do business in Nigeria and any other country where we have operations.
You may notice that our sites do not host all of the stuff you see there. These "embeds" are hosted by a third party and appear to be a component of the page they are embedded in. For instance: films from YouTube or Vimeo, tweets from Twitter, or documents from Scribd that are embedded in posts on our sites. When for example, you access a page on any of our sites with a YouTube video embedded in it, that video appears by virtue of a pointer to files hosted by YouTube; in return, YouTube receives data about your activity, such as your IP address and how much of the video you watched. These files send data to the hosted site just as if you were visiting that site directly.
It is forbidden to integrate forms that let people submit their personal information when using our sites. You must direct readers to an offsite page that accepts these contributions, and that page's design must be sufficiently different from our sites’ pages to prevent misleading other users. If you do not do this, we will take various steps to restrict or deactivate your account, including removing the post.
Cookies & Tracking
Thanks to technology like browser cookies, we will be able to identify you when you use our services again. We use them in a variety of ways, including to log you in, remember your preferences (such as your default language), evaluate the effectiveness of mailings, personalize content and other services, to name a few.
Although you can choose to use or not use this optional feature, the Centre keeps information about the URLs you save to it. We do not, however, track your visits to or activity while using third-party websites or applications. We however keep track of how you use the Centre’s services (which include services on juritrustcentre.org, juritrustlawnotes.org, third-party domains hosted by the Centre, and our mobile app).
We may hold on to residual copies of information for a brief length of time (often several weeks) in order to safeguard it from malicious or unintentional destruction. Your content and information, however, will no longer be retrievable if you delete your account after that point. When obliged to do so by law, we may keep copies of your information stored by it for a longer amount of time.
To secure data sent to and from our sites, we employ encryption (HTTPS). We cannot guarantee security because no data transmission over the Internet is ever completely safe. You use the Service at your own risk and are in charge of taking adequate security precautions for your account.

Sometimes we will send you emails about your account, service changes or new policies. You cannot opt out of this type of “transactional” email (unless you delete your account) but, you can opt out of non-administrative emails such as digests, newsletters, and activity notifications through your account’s Settings page.
Modifications to this Policy
This Policy may be updated by at any time. If there are major changes, we will let you know. The policy will always be available here, where we will also keep old versions (of the policy archived
